External Drive Trash Can Help?

Hey,

I had a question here.

In my experience with UNIX systems, when you delete something off of an external hard drive, it makes a folder in the root of the external hard drive called .Trash~<username> or something to that effect.

For some reason, when I delete something it feels the need to copy it on over to my root partition and proceed to dump it into my trash bin - where I can then "empty the trash bin."

I've never seen this problem before, is there any way I can change the KDE settings to simply delete on delete, or move to the .Trash folder on delete? Instead of moving to my root trash folder?
