Migrating to KDE 4.1.2

Hello.

I've been a happy KDE user for a few years now, and I've grown very fond of the panel configuration, color scheme, etc., I have put together over time.

Now, the distro I'm using (Kubuntu) is switching to KDE 4 for future versions, and I'm trying out KDE 4.1.2.

I have my main Panel vertical on the right screen edge on 3.5.10, can this be done in 4.1.2? I've tried, but can't find a way to do it yet.

The system tray icons get ugly. I say "get" because they look good at startup, but as they start shifting along the tray when more appear, it seems they don't get redrawn. For example, the battery icon pops up, then the NetworkManager icon appears over it, and the battery icon shifts to the left, but pieces of the icon still remain under the NetworkManager icon. Also, sometimes there's noise over them, sometimes green/purple lines, sometimes static-like, but just over each icon, not over the entire system tray. I have an Nvidia video card, I don't know if that might have something to do with it.
I'll try to post a screenshot of my system tray once I'm home

Also, I tried to install my favorite cursor theme. Only a few of the cursors were replaced, others remain in the Oxygen theme, which I really don't like. Is there a way to fix this?

Thanks for the help

Here's the screenshot of my system tray. Notice how the battery icon has the Kmix icon behind it.
