Alarm notification

Hello guys. i have just bought an eee pc and trying to get to grips with Korganizer especially pim. My problem is getting alarm notification, i can get a pop-up window when the app is started but cant get it to start without me running program which means i have to run korganizer before it will remind me of anything.

will it run reminders on start-up?

O.K. guys this is quite important for me so could you tell me if it is not possible because i will try to source a new programme, it seems i am not the only one with the same trouble...
