SOLVED: KDE 4.1 on Slackware 12.1

So I just installed KDE 4.1 per instructions in the README on
/pub/slackware/kde/README. When I start KDE the loading icons show,
then when that box goes away i get 2 notifications:

"url cannot be listed: desktop:/"

and KOrganizer: "cannot load system tray icon"

In the menus the icons are gone as well, the only ones that show up are firefox, emacs, etc... the KDE icons aren't loading. ee!

SOoooo anyone know off the top of their head what package(s) I'm
missing or if there is some other cause? I guess I can sorta use KDE,
but meh. It's harsh lame and difficult to find stuff.

I'll keep poking at stuff, hopefully I find something.

I haven't used linux much since slack 7.1, so I have forgotten so much. :-o

UPDATE:
so i reinstalled again, this time piping the screen output to file so i can actually read stuff. turns out 3 of the packages were corrupted:
boost, kdeadmin, and kdebase.
no wonder.
