Strange shaded history of open windows in menubar

Hi, I'm a noob to KDE4.1 (and *NIX, for that matter); I have an odd problem. In my main menubar, I've got a history of each window I've opened in the form of shaded out icons. It's as if my menubar thinks I have thirty windows open, but clicking on a given shaded out icon in the menubar doesn't do anything, unless I actually HAVE that window open. Is there some way to clear your history so it doesn't show up in the menubar? This is REALLY annoying.
