Same problem

I have a newly-installed Kubuntu 8.04 - KDE4 system that has been upgraded to KDE4.1. My laptop is an Acer Extensa 4420. I have never had the suspend/hibernate buttons on this machine. I checked when I had KDE 4.0.3 with no proprietary drivers, and the same with KDE 4.1. I installed proprietary drivers for my Radeon X1250 card and my (Broadcom?) wireless card, and (not surprisingly) I still do not have suspend/resume icons.

The best part is that suspend, hibernate, and resume all work perfectly if I go to a Konsole and type "sudo pm-suspend" or "sudo pm-hibernate".

So, I really want some K-Menu icons! I know they exist since I've seen them on my desktop. I just can't figure out how to get them to appear on my laptop.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

i used kde4-svn a few days ago and did have them on the menu, so i'm guessing it a feature not yet implemented and will be on 4.2

I have suspend and hibernate options in the shutdown options.

Make sure you have offer shutdown options enabled in the session manager -> system settings

Now when you are asked if you want to log out, shutdown or restart. Press shutdown and hold down the mouse button. The suspend to RAM and suspend to disk options will pop up.

I admit they are kind off tucked away
