Questions about graphical glitches and Desktop Effects

Hello folks

This is my first post so please sorry if I have posted in the wrong subsection or made any other mistake.
Also sorry for any language problems I have - English is not my native one.

Okay here we go:

I installed KDE 4.1 yesterday and I am very satisfied with it in the first place. However I am an NVidia user..............
Yes I know there are many problems and those are related to the driver.
But these problems I have are nothing really like the reported problems about ppor 2D performance. My windows resize fast and I have also no scrolling problems.

I am using an AMD X2 6000+, NVidia GeForce 9600GT with latest stable drivers and I have played around with any options the KDE guys offered friendly to improve the KDE situation for us unlucky Nvidia owners (sorry again... :().

My personal first problems begin when I try to open an image which comes directly from the Desktop Window and is opened with gwenvie. If I do that, the image isn't shown but it seems Gwenview just shows something from the Video Buffer... Artifacts. I've just uploaded it here:
www.dxx-rebirth.de/blog/zico/41glitch.jpg .
Here you also can see a small graphical glicht in the Task Manager besides the clock (Kopete and KNotes icon).

Alsmost a same distortion happens with the backgrouhnd if I logout from a session. The logout panel shows, but the background is messed with artifacts.

EDIT: I just realized this glitch seems to be only happen with PNGs... a hint? May my libpng be broken? Hmmm....

HOWEVER the logout glitch does NOT appear when I enable ANY Desktop effects (the other two can still happen).
But here's my second thing: If I enable Desktop Effects, OpenGL applications I use are not really smooth anymore. Especially when I would like to use VSync on my game (I am developing) the screen playback is very choppy.
XRender makes it a BIT better than OpenGL, but nor good as well. VSync in Desktop Effects options drive up my CPU usage to 100% but I think this is my driver problem.

I guess this is somehow related to the rendering speed of the Desktop. If I switch on the FPS view for the Desktop, it runs at 50FPS and goes down much more if I start some OpenGL application. Since those FPS are very low and never match my Monitor sync (VSync) the output is choppy. (can someone probably confirm this or tell me only I have this?)

I am not sure if this MIGHT be related to the NVidia driver but I also had these problems with Compiz etc. So I wondered if I can somehow change the FPS the Desktop uses, or maybe "override" the Desktop effects when running an OpenGL application in Fullscreen or so?

Hope someone can probably explain it a bit to me. If these are just "normal" bugs I am completly fine with it. I accept KDE is still "on the way" and my full respects go to all developers...
I also know it might be easy to say it's my fault because I have an Nvidia card and I should contact them, but I just want to be sure... I feel already VERY bad to own such a card and post in the KDE forum about my problems...

Well I guess that's it for now.
Thanks for reading.

greetings
Christian
