Graphics Properties

Hey,
I just installed Quake 3 Arena demo on my computer and the graphics is really laggy. I tired playing around with the game settings but it doesn't do much.
umm is there a why to configure the graphic porperties on the Kde or in Konsole so i can speed up things.
