kde 4 and widgets

I just tried out the RC for opensuse 11 with the new kde 4 installed. I like the new stability of the desktop, however i'm not a fan of the widgets. Is there a way to turn them off completely as i never use them and I don't much care for the widget/panel adder that is in the upper right hand corner. I also don't like how all the desktop icons are treated like widgets. Are these changes going to be the new standard for KDE or is there a way to shut them off? If there is a way to turn them off it wasn't obvious enough for me :whistling: After some more time playing around with kde 4 it appears as if there is less customization options for things like the panel. Are these also the new standard or will there be more options with later updates?
