KSIM will not run

I'm running KDE 3.5 on Debian Etch. Today I installed the KDEUTILS package. KSIM appears on the K menu but when I select it nothing happens. I ran ADEPT and reinstalled the KSIM package. Still nothing. Can anyone tell my what it takes to get KSIM to run properly? Thanks!

Try running ksim from a terminal -- you might get an error message that will indicate where the problem is.

I tried using ALT-F2 as both myself and root and got the same error:

Sorry - KDesktop
Service '/usr/share/applications/kde/ksim.desktop' is malformatted.

What might this mean?

I'm running KDE 3.5.9 from Kubuntu 8.04, so YMMV, but... to run ksim here I right-click the panel at the bottom of the screen and go "Add New Panel" --> "Ksim" and thereafter it pops up when I move the mouse pointer to the bottom right corner of the screen.
