Questions about KDE and simplekde

Hi. I recently found about the simplekde project (which aims to be a lighter KDE) and noticed that it's currently a bit outdated (it's based on kde 3.4.1) and I wanted to know. What happened to it (was it abandoned, microsofted or did it merge into KDE)? Also if it merged into KDE how much of it's simplification made it to KDE 3.5.x?

Also about KDE itself, when KDE4 becomes more widely used, will KDE3 go extinct, or will it be forked (I would like the latter, and the fork to become Mac-like, while KDE4 obviously is windoze-vista like)?
