kde 4 crashes on changing desktop effects

kde 4 crashes on changing desktop effects

whenever i change any desktop effects ( through system settings) it crashes , that is , the screen will be black no matter how many times i logout and login..i have to go to gnome and delete the ~/.kde4 folder only to have a naive desktop with default settings..

I have the same issue on an old laptop. I suspect the video card is not strong enough to display all the effects I selected.
What type of videocard do you use?
