could not configure kde 4

Hi all ,
I just installed kde 4 on ubuntu 7.10 . I logged into and changed some settings ( like screen resolution , panel size etc..) . But when i again log into Kde 4 , all the changed settings ( changes i made ) are over written and the default settings are loaded..
Any help .??
