KDEInit can't launch text editor

Hello,

When I double-click a text file in Konqueror, K Write opens but Konqueror gets inoperative and keeps waiting for K Write to close. When I close finally K Write, Konqueror displays "Impossible for KDEInit to launch /opt/kde4/bin/kwrite", When I click OK to acknowledge, it relaunches K Write (without asking me to) and redisplays "Impossible for KDEInit...". Then it stops.

I googled this problem thoroughly and many people seem to report it. However, none of the few solutions worked for me. I tried in SU mode "xauth merge /home/USER/.Xauthority". The command worked but didn't solve the problem. Following other Google results, I also tried "xhost +localhost" to no avail.

Finally, a last thing I tried: I installed the Kate editor from a package. The program displayed in KDE's Applications menu. I right-clicked a text file, I selected "Open with...", I chose Kate and checked "Make default". Konqueror displayed a progress bar to apply the changes and then crashed. And next thing I know, Kate was no longer in KDE's Applications menu. So I still have the same problem.
