KMail (KDE 3.5.9) doesn't start

Hello!

I've just upgraded my Gentoo Linux with KDE 3.5.9, hoping that the IMAP bugs from kmail were fixed. The result is that there is just one program which doesn't start anymore: kmail.

It's not clear to me what it is happening. KCrash window doesn't show up (but this could be an issue of my installation), and the only output I get when compiling kmail with a "debug" option (I use a Gentoo ebuild, I'm not sure which configuration option it matches) is:

Source code

$ kmail
kmail: KMKernel::KMKernel
kmail: No Qt-native utf-7 codec found; registering QUtf7Codec from libkdenetwork
kmail: [void KMKernel::init()] foldersPath (from config): '/home/hamlet/Mail'
kmail: instantating KPIM::IdentityManager
kmail: pPopFilter set
ERROR: Communication problem with kmail, it probably crashed.
KCrash: Application 'kmail' crashing...
KCrash cannot reach kdeinit, launching directly.

I tried erasing the /tmp/kde* directories of my user with no result.
How can I learn what is the problem? Could it be I once knew how to disable KCrash and I did?
I try to attach a compressed `strace kmail` output.

Thank you!
