stutter

hi all im somewhat new to linux and really new to KDE, i dont know if this post should go here or in the graphics/multimedia, but i just installed mandriva with KDE, love it but, when i am just browsing the internet on say youtube.com or anything that has alot of pictures or alot of videos, pages that are more graphically intense, when i scroll instead of being smooth it kind of hangs ans stutters and the next thing i know im at the bottom of the page, also alot of the desktop effects dont work like when you open a minimized instead of it doing the fade in action smoothly it does it kind of in steps.

system specs:
amd 6400+ X2, 2 gig ram, nvidia 8600gts 512mb. I think I have KDE 4 but im not positive about that (sorry)
Im wondering if maybe there are some drivers or what not for the video card that i need to install that im not aware about.

RE: stutter

never mind problem solved i enabled the proprietary driver, and change compizfusion to xgl works like a champ, quick and smooth.
