KDE apps network Issues behind router

I seem to have a problem with ONLY KDE apps behind my router. Konq, kmail, etc all give slow speeds or unknown host errors. DNS related perhaps? I don't have this issue with any other apps like firefox, thunderbird, pidgin, gnome apps etc. For some reason it's only KDE related. I'm using kde4 atm but I also have the same issue in 3.5.x as well. Any help would be much appreciated.

hrm well I've found that if I specify my isps dns servers in resolv.conf rather than my router address it seems to fix it but why does KDE behave like this?
