Kpdf doesn't use printer settings

I recently installed an HP 2605DN network printer using kubuntu's printer wizard. I changed the default papersize (letter ->a4) and tray, and turned on the duplex module. These settings all show up in the control center printer settings as well as in the cups webinterface, and work well when printing from kate, openoffice and xpdf.

However, when I try to print from kpdf or acrobat reader, the printer shows an error message asking for letter paper. Acrobat's printer dialog shows the original default settings, and when I change those, it prints without problem. I do have to do it manually every time, which is annoying. Kpdf is a bigger problem, because when I look at the printing dialog, it shows the correct settings (A4), but it sends letter to the printer anyway. So it basically ignores kde's printer configuration. I use kde 3.5.8 on kubuntu gutsy. Any ideas?
I.

I'm seeing the same behaviour here: I use A4 paper, and an A4-only printer, but when I print from KPDF, regardless of what settings I've selected in the kpdf "print" dialog, the printer always receives jobs in 'letter' format.

I have not had problems with printing using CUPS prior to this, so I think that it is probably a kpdf problem. I have my region (English - Eire) and locale (en_IE) set up correctly (and these should define default paper type as A4,metric.

I am using Gentoo with kpdf 3.5.7-r3
