greek accents problem

HI there! I'm a new PCBSD user, I've installed 1.4.1 (daVinci) [FreeBSD 6.3 Prerelease, KDE 3.5.7] on Acer Aspire laptop.
Very nice so far, except for a problem with the greek language, I can't place accents on vowels, it is usually done by pressing ";" before the vowel.
If I press twice the ";", the accent appears "ยด", but that's it. No accented letters.
Another issue is changing layouts, I cant use the Alt+Shift combination, despite having configured it, in Settings>Reg&Accessibility>Kbd layout.
In fact no combination works, apart from Ctrl+Alt+K.

I am newbie on this, so I could use some help, thanks.
