lost my bouncy icons

Hello there,

I lost my bouncy icons the other day, in their stead I have ugly (but appropriately) coloured squares (which also bounce). In adddition all the icons in the KMenu have disappeared...

As far as I can see all icons in /usr/share/icons are present and correct - have copied over /usr/share/icons/crystalsvg/ from a functioning installation to be on the safe side. Also, If I change to a standard design like plastic everything works again...

If anybody has any pointers as to where I should be looking, many thanks!
