KDE Login Manager problem

I try to use KDE login manager background settings under Mandriva
2008 , PClinuxOS 2007 and MEPIS on the same computer
(these are all installed in the exteded partition so I am talking software
problem) Under the first two is not working but under MEPIS it is ok.
What do I do ?. I clear the Theme path in kdmrc file (naturally you never
talk about this any place relating to Theme) and it gives the basic login
screen (which I think is the original X windows login screen) and now
in the login manager I can change font, location of the login box, message
but I can not use a background pickture which I down loaded from the KDE
site only those which came with the distro work. This is the situation in
Mandriva and PClinusOS (which is a kind of copy of Mandriva) but MEPIS
works anything I dow load from the KDE site I can use as a background
right of way. I noticed the permission on directories different on MEPIS then
the previous two so I changed it but still does not work. By the way Suse 10.2
has the same problem which I have on the same PC also. I install distros
in the exteded partition so I can compare them. What is your opinion ?
What could be the problem? You know I am not a KDE expert so I looking
for an aswer.

Kubuntu has a similar issue. I added/edited the UseTheme=true to UseTheme=false and it worked for me...
