Problems with KDE 3.5.7 screen resolutions

All:
I am having a problem with changing my screen resolution with KDE 3.5.7 and was wondering if anyone could help me.
I have a TNT Riva2 video card with xserver screen resolution settings 1280x960. I also boot up with Grub in graphical mode in screen resolution 1280x960 mode. My Mandriva Linux 2008 PC boots up with the aforementioned screen resolution and looks just great.
After I log in and try to reconfigure the screen resolution in KDE 3.5.7, I find that I can only go as high as 1024x768. Does anyone know why that is with this KDE distro? I used to be able to go higher with previous versions of KDE.
Thank you for any help.

Keith
