REMOTE_DISPLAY environment variable incorrectly set

When KDE starts a session with a remote display, it sets the REMOTE_DISPLAY incorrectly. For example:
kdeinit: kwin session 11c0a8148a00011860145140000
0032200000_11921 kdeinit: kwin session 11c0a8148a00011860145140000
0032200000_11922

It should set it to the remote display, e.g. somehost:0.

Is there some way to fix this?
