Compiled KDE in LFS: no text

Hi,
I recently decided to try building Linux From Scratch (www.linuxfromscratch.org). I had a perfectly working environment, with Xorg and everything, and decided to take it one step further and build KDE. After hours of compiling and configuring, I finally started KDE to find that there is no text. None anywhere. Only squares. Any place that text would be, I instead see neet little squares which I usually take to mean they are characters that can't be displayed. I've tried different LANG settings and even rebuilt Qt to know avail. Perhaps its a font issue? Any advice?
