kDat can't mount used tapes

I'm having a problem with kDat. It works fine with a new tape but cannot mount used tapes.

As soon as I try and mount the tape it comes back with an error saying there's no tape in the drive - no drive activity.

In the console I'm getting the messages:
OggS-SEEK: at 0 want 78328 got 68160 (diff-requested 78328)
OggS-SEEK: at 78400 want 520 got 0 (diff-requested -77880)

These appear to be from OGG, why? I know DAT could be audio but I just want a backup!

thanks
