KDE4 installation directory

I'm following the build instructions at http://techbase.kde.org/Getting_Started/Build/KDE4_Alpha_1 and when I get to the "make install" for kdelibs, the install directory in /usr/local.

Q1: Isn't it supposed to be /home/<kde4_user>/kde?
Q2: If so, how do I force the cmake scripts to install KDE4 there?
Q3: If /usr/local is the correct directory, wont that corrupt my current KDE3 installation?
