Cannot talk to Klauncher / KDE frozen

Hello

I like KDE but what is happening to me now is challenging my opinion.
Here is what happened:

After a hard reboot, and normal begining of KDE loading (I'm in linux mandriva 2007), the loading stops at: "loading the window manager".

Then the screen goes dark, with only the mouse pointer remaining (that i can move).

This unfortunate event happened before on my laptop after the batteries ran out and the computer switched of itself without any warning. I ended with reinstalling the whole mandriva package (idem, KDE would not start, ending with the same black screen).

I would like to avoid doing the total re-installation on my desktop.

I have tried several things:
1) boot without the resume option
2) write all zeros on my swap partition
3) uninstall KDM and reinstall it

In the later case, I am able to go to a totally empty desktop after the message

"cannot talk to KLAUNCHER"

appears. Then, if I right click on the mouse and create a folder, few icons will appear: home, devices, name of my just created folder,... but no start menu, no multiple desktops...

What can I do?

Thanks a lot for any hint or help.

Ludovic
