running two instances of qip

Hi there! I want two licq ICQ clients to start side by side at logon, so I use the Menu Editor to copy-n-paste the original licq stuff to licq2 with the necessary substitutions (including non-conflicting licq -b setting). Unfortunately at login time the error is displayed, something like: "Licq already running as pid XXX" and the second copy won't start. I'm sure it's a FAQ, so please help!

Debian GNU/Linux 4.0 (Etch)
KDE 3.5.5-1
licq 1.3.4-2

P.S.: please excuse the "qip" part in the subj, it's a brain fart :-)
