KDE File Associaton Problem

Hi folks--

I'm running OpenSUSE 10.2/64 with KDE 4.5.5. Tonight I was opening a folder full of music files with VLC. I right clicked on the folder and selected 'open with 'other'', unfortunately checking the 'always associate' box. I hit the cancel button but not fast enough.

Anyway, I thought, No problem, and I changed the association to konqueror. However, all folders now open in a separate window. 'Settings-->Configure Konqueror' & unchecking 'open folders in separate windows' makes no difference.

How do I restore the original behavior?

Thanks....

RE: KDE File Associaton Problem

Welp!

Doesn't look like we are going to get much help with this, does it?
What I did that sort of kind of helps. Set associations of "all" to Konqueror. Open desktop and navigate to your home partitiion. Go to tools and erase the file manager profile. Check the create seperate windows button. opposite of what we want! Now save the profile for window manager.

Things will sort of work now, with a few problems, it seems from time to time to revert to its bad behavior. Best I can do for now.

I hate to have to reload KDE to get rid of this (Ugh! Windows style problem fixiing!" Reload it all! Can't fix!)

Still battling this myself. No help in .kde/share/config/konqerorrc either.

No help at kongueror.org either. "We are KDE! We don't do trouble shooting guides! Why are all the Linux IT guys going to Gnome?"

Why not "Open with..." one media file, choose vlc, and make it the default ?
Debian Linux, mix of stable, testing and unstable; KDE with Compiz Fusion >=0.52 (git)

RE: KDE File Associaton Problem

OK..

Somehow it is buggering a file, breaking a link or something, I suspect it has a bug in file associations that creates a corrupted or buggered file. Once buggered, that is it. I rooted around in my backups, found my latest system backup and I made .kde, .kde-busted and copied .kde from backup to the system. Make sure permissions are correct. That works. If you backup, do that. If not, I am out of ideas. For the future, get .kde working, then save .kde to a back up directory. I will now delete .kde-busted and make a copy of .kde as. kde-backup. The .kde partition does NOT llike it when you try to replace bits and pieces, but replacing the whole thing works.
