I understand everyone is quite busy with KDE 4, and I can't wait for the release.
However, with QT getting an embedded version of KHTML/Webkit, why not take this whole Web Unity step to the next logical level?
The QT widgets in Firefox are completely broken in the trunk, as it fully relies on Cairo-GTK2. The silly thing is that most major features went on the back burner for over a year while the Mozilla project worked on a new rendering engine. Meanwhile, there already existed (IMHO) an existing, better rendering engine.
There are several forks of the Mozilla project, and an existing QT branch that is dying to be updated. With the new QT embedded KHTML/Webkit, I would absolutely love to see a version of Firefox I could use with QT and KHTML/Webkit.
If I knew anything beyond the basic beginnings of C, I'd attempt this myself, but I've been told the Mozilla code is particularly lengthy and complex.
What would be the advantages of this? A web browser is one of the most ever-present pieces of software we have. We'd all benefit from an incredible browser. I know Konqueror exists, and it should remain for those who wish to use it. But many love Firefox's features, as it is designed primarily to be a browser. If I type info the in address bar, I want it to search the internet, not local files, etc. Firefox also has incredible plugin and theming support.
Firefox is also widely adopted across several platforms. The moment a faster, better version of Firefox appears on the scene, it will gain massive attention. This is a great opportunity for Trolltech and the KDE team to demonstrate to the world the awesome power of QT and KHTML/Webkit.
Spread the word and spread the love! Please give us a QT powered version of Firefox!
