Received emails formatted with the images in the correct location

I'm not sure of the term but when someone sends me an email with embedded images located throughout the text, all the images are located at the end of the message after all the text. Sometimes I'll get messages with plain text at the top, html text after that followed by the images. As a result, I have to open all the images manually and they are never next to their captions which makes reading these emails difficult.

I am sure that I've missed something in the set up. I'm sure this issue has been addressed elsewhere in this forum but it would take a long time to look through all the posts. I've tried searching but not knowing the correct terms for this problem, my searches have not turned up anything.

Can anyone help?

Which version of kde do you have?
Only recent versions of kmail can show embedded images inline in the mail.

According to Synaptic, I'm running version KDE 5.47. The other version number I see is 3.80.3-Obuntu2 I'm actually running Kubuntu.
