Control Key Broken

Using a virgin install of KDE 3.5.4 on CentOS 5, and my control key does not function properly.

If I am in any application, and I hit a control key combo, I have to release the CTRL key and then press it again to hit another combo. The key works properly if I drop to a console but fails to work in any application run in KDE. The Shift key works fine and I think the alt key works fine...

Any suggestions?
