Active area of up-arrow cursor not at the arrowhead

I am developing graphics programms with Java and SWT (standard widgets toolkit). After the installation of Suse Linux 10.2 (before I used Suse 9.0) I ran into a problem while selecting objects with an uparrow cursor.
The active area for selection is not as expected the arrowhead but the middle of the arrow cursor symbol. This was not the case in Suse 9.0.
I am not sure whether it is a KDE problem or a GTK+ problem.
Any hint would be greatly appreciated.
