KDE logout problem

Hello,

I am running KDE 3.5.6 and noticed odd behavior regarding KDE logout. Normally, when logging out of KDE, one would see a popup dialog menu with the logout/shutdown options (e.g. the dragon "konqi" screen) overlaying a greyed out desktop. However, my problem involves a black background that sits between the greyed out desktop and the KDE dialog menu. I have attached two screenshots of the above situation. I would like to remove the abnormal black background so that my KDE logout acts normally as it should.

Any suggestions/help/recommendations are welcomed.

Thanks
