How to lock icons in place?

Hello,

I use KDE 3.5.6 on Fedora Core 6, screen resolution 1680x1050. When I arrange my icons and logout/login, they don't stay where I put them. It seems to be quite random..

This is how I originally arranged my icons:

and this is what happened when I logged out and in again:

It looks like there is a limit of 6 icons in a column. Whenever I try to have more in a column, KDE rearranges them... I have checked "Align to grid" and "Lock in place" but it doesn't help - it only means that whenever I want to move them manually I have to unlock them, but it doesn't prevent them from being moved around without my consent :baby:

Is there something I can do in the configuration, or is this a bug? ?(

thanks...

RE: How to lock icons in place?

I'm thinking this could be a bug. I have a similar problem with external USB storage devices, as well as my DVD ROM. When mount the drives or insert a disc, most of the time they seem to appear in the order that they're mounted. But pretty regularly, one or more will show up in a completely different place other than the column on the left. Sometimes it leaves me wondering where the hell they are. So to verify that they actually mount, I usually open my home folder so I can see the desktop in a window. Sure enough, everything I connect is there, but they're just out of order on the desktop. It seems completely random, though, and I haven't searched for a solution. Since you're having a similar problem, my guess is that it's a bug.
In retrospect, everything is funny.

RE: How to lock icons in place?

There is the same problem in openSUSE since about version 10, but I recently resolved the problem with a patch for KDE 3.5.5 see: http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php…s?content=59337
