GUI rendering speed is very poor

Hi,

I use kde 3.5.5 under Kubuntu Edgy, my CPU is a Athlon-XP 2800+ with 1GB RAM and I have a Geforce 6600GT (I use the nvidia graphic driver).

my xorg.log says:

Quoted

(II) Loading extension NV-GLX
(II) NVIDIA(0): NVIDIA 3D Acceleration Architecture Initialized
(II) NVIDIA(0): Using the NVIDIA 2D acceleration architecture

So nvidia 2D rendering acceleration should be present.

Unfortunately under KDE rendering of windows is very slow. For examples on some webpages scrolling is not fluent (i.g. kubuntu-de.org; a German kubuntu formum) with Firefox I can scroll fluently.

Also moving windows which are in front of other windows is slow and not fluent. You can also see rendering artifacts. That is also much better under Gnome.

My question is why is rendering so slow under KDE and how can I tune it so it competes with rendering speed under Gnome or MS Windows?

Thanks in advance

Andy
