Will KDE 4 have better eyecandy?

Does anybody know whether KDE 4 will have any 3d effects in kwin or will it have any better support with Beryl? (e.g. kicker only displays windows on that face of the cube and not the programs on all the cubes). thanks

KWin will come with its own compositing and effects, so there will really be little need to make KDE work with Beryl. The burden of making Beryl work with KDE lies on the Beryl end, though.

The advantages of KWin having its own compositing is that the effects willb e built on top of an already stable and existing window manager, not the other way around. It also means that we don't lose any of the KWin features and peculiarities.

So yes, we will probably see spinning cubes soon...

So will kwin_composite be added to kde 4 or will it be released before hand? Also will it have all the features that vista, beryl or compiz can offer? because it looks quite basic at the moment (I'm guessing its in early development?)

i don't think kwin would implement all features of kompiz/beryl, but go it's own path and implement whatever they find usefull/nice, and don't care if it is already available for beryl or not.

if kwin becomes a compositing/windowing manager also depends on if the composite part attrackts enough developers to implement and maintain it.

And of course, kwin should be able to run without it.

kde4 has no release schedule yat, and afaik it's not sure how much compositing kwin will support in kde4.
so for now it is not known when this will be available.
keep an eye on http://dot.kde.org for updates..
