Kmail wiping mailboxes

Kmail wiping mailboxes

I have a serious problem with Kmail. This has occurred in the past but I just and wrote it off to experience. However it has happened again and the problem is now serious. it has wiped some very important mail.

This is in KDE 3.5 on SLES 10 last time it happened in 3.2.
It seems to occur when I'm modifying filters

Edit filters or create new filter in this case.
Select all and then ctrl-j
Everything seems to work then KMail hangs
Close Kmail (Comes up with "Kmail is not responding" and so forth)

Reopen Kmail
Now when I go to my mail box I can see my mail but if I click on an Email the line changes to "No subject no sender no date no receiver" and the body of the mail is blank.

In this instance I lost all the mail in one mailbox that was sent in February.

Is there any way I can retrieve this

Failing that, what's the easiest way to export my mail to evolution.
