Configure auto-mount

Hi

I'm not able to configure KDE to auto-mount storage devices.

At Control Center - Peripherals - Storage Media
- Advanced
the two checkboxes
enable HAL (no support for HAL on this system)
enable CD Pooling
are enabled, but grayed

I have compiled HAL 0.5.8.1, udev 104, Policykit from SVN, D-Bus 1.02
gnome-manager 1.5.15 and KDE 3.5.6
Are these versions too new, so that KDE doesn't support them yet?
I hav a CLFS and CBLFS system, so in case of doubt, I rather did not
install a further needed package.

I do not know exactly how to configure HAL. I used
http://de.opensuse.org/SDB:Mounten_zu_festen_Mountpoints
as tutorial
However it doesn't work.

Did I forget anything, packages, kernel modules configuration?

thanks for your help
