Change system notification volume

Audio works fine, and notifications work fine, but I'd like to change the volume of the notifications. They are way too loud compared to the music that I play. I go into the KDE control center > system notifications > player settings button, and drag the volume slider to half way, but it doesn't go into effect. I can drag the slider all the way down to zero, and the system notifications still play just as loud. I've tried to go into root and do the changes there, but they still don't go into effect. I don't know what to do now. This is very annoying. It worked when I did it in gentoo, but not in opensuse 10.2

knotifyrc: (volume = 0, but it still plays just as loud as 100)
