Floppy Drive not showing up in Konqueror

I have an up to date install of gentoo, KDE 3.5.5 and in the media page I can see all of the partitions but not the 2 floppy drives, Any idea whats going on, The screen unfortunately doesnt let me add links to the devices

floppy drives are usually added to the file /etc/fstab, and then mounted in the traditional way with a mount command.

You can then acces the floppy in the directory /mnt/floppy1 or /media/floppy1 or whatever directory you have used to mount the device.

Yes, Understood

I have created links on my desktop to my 2 floppies and I can use them to mount and unmount the floppies but even mounted they do not show up in my media folder as does a cd or dvd that does automount itself and show up next to the partitions in my media folder

I have tried to create the links manually by edit, create, link to device

but it wont let me write to that folder as I believe Media is some type of virtual folder.

media:/ is indeed a virtual folder. It is actually a kioslave, and AFAIK it gets its information about media devices from dbus and hal.

I doubt that it is possible to add your floppy devices manually to it.
At least it won't work via drag-n-drop etc, you should edit the configuration of dbus/hal i guess..

Okay, thanks to your suggestion about checking into hal and dbus I believe I am making some headway,

!st off, I have seen that In Gnome, under nautilus, I can see my two floppy drives, the computer folder,
Then I attempted to stop the services and repeatably have seen that if I boot up and do not start the hald daemon, The Floppy drives show up, If I start the haldaemon after having booted they dissappear, Now I am Really Confused!!!!

Dunno if it is related, but look at the reply of kriko in this thread:
