cups totally destroyed (by kde printer setup??)

hi!

i used the latest stable version of cups with esp-ghostscript to print on my okipage8w. (gentoo /kde 3.5)

it only printed half pages (sometimes more sometimes less, depending on the amount of data on the page), so i searched for setttings to cure this.

i changed the optien "RIP-Buffer" in the "filter settings" in "server settings" of the kcontrol printer setup.
now everything is a mess:
the printer doesn't work at all, cups doesn't listen to localhost:631 although i emerged it for several times now. the cups logfile says, that it has given out error 404 (so in fact it does listen, but shows a "not found" in browser)
when i try to use webmin to setup printers, it causes a massive memory overflow. kcontrol completely hangs when i try to add a printer or something.

what the hell is this?? if it was windows, i would suspect a virus, but not regular software, to cause such trouble...

Try running

Source code

1
# /etc/init.d/cups restart

and look for error messages.

The only thing I can suggest is to go to http://bugs.kde.org and file a bug against kdeprint. I believe kdeprint messes up some configuration files.

indeed copying cupsd.conf.default to cupsd.conf repaired cups, but still i can't print complete pages... print jobs are not finished, it always stops printing somewhere before the end of the page and some minutes later it tries to print the rest, but without the missing part of the page...
