multiple desktops not working KDE 3.5.6 on OpenSUSE 10.2

Hi,
I'm a newbie using openSUSE 10.2. I am trying to configure multiple desktops, however, I am not able to define more than 1 desktop. I do see the desktop panel on the taskbar, showing 4 desktops and I am able to put windows in them, but on the multiple desktop configuration I am unable to add more - it bounces back to 1 desktop when I bring up the configuration window after applying changes.

I am asking as I would like to, as an example, to use different wallpapers on each of the desktops, but I am unable to do so as only 'Desktop 1' is enabled. ?( ?(

Please assist .. :rolleyes:
