Multiple Desktop feature not working

Hi,
I'm a newbie using openSUSE 10.2. I am trying to configure multiple desktops, however, I am not able to define more than 1 desktop. I do see the desktop panel on the taskbar, showing 4 desktops and I am able to put windows in them, but on the multiple desktop configuration I am unable to add more - it bounces back to 1 desktop when I bring up the configuration window after applying changes.

I am asking as I would like to, as an example, to use different wallpapers on each of the desktops, but I am unable to do so as only 'Desktop 1' is enabled ?( ?(

Please assist .. :)

you can see the attached screenshot.

At the top of the Multiple Desktops screen photo you included, the "Number of desktops" is set to 1.

You should be able to 'activate' the others by clicking the 'up' button at the end of that line to equal the number of desktops you want activated (5 by your example) - so it will read: Number of desktops 5

Then if, as you say, after clicking APPLY, the new desktops deactivate somehow, it is beyond my understanding. But, since you said you were a newbie I thought I'd offer the default advice, just in case.

Also take a look at your kdesktoprc file found in Home (View hidden files) .kde/share/config - Open it with Kwrite.

[Desktop0] represents the default Desktop 1 - see if the other four you made earlier, along with their attributes, are listed as [Desktop1] thru [Desktop4].

Post back here the contents and maybe someone can interpret what's happening.

Sorry if this doesn't help you.
