problem with icons

I've got problem with icons in kde.
Everything has been running good, but yesterday when I've restarted the machine (first i logged out from kde and then used init 6 by root) and after the reboot I am unable to see icons in kde menu and those which were on the upper panel in konqueror. When I start some apps then I can't see bouncing icon from it as cursor, otherwise I see bouncing one-color rectangle. Can anyone help me to restore the icons ?

Some details:
KDE runs under Gentoo 2006.1. KDE version is 3.5.5 compiled some days ago. Never runned in graph-mode as root. Only thing I've done before this fatal reboot was changing permission to /usr/share (to rwx to all users)

RE: problem with icons

KDE is installed in /usr/kde/3.5 where all icons reside.

RE: problem with icons

I can see there some folders with icon-files but I have no idea why I can't see them in my kde-menu and in the panels of konqueror. Otherwise I can see icon's of folders and other files when I look over my hdd using konqueror, I am able to see icons on desktop too. Only KDE-menu and those konqueror panels...

RE: problem with icons

Maybe some interference with an older icon scheme? Try to set the icon theme to the default in Control Center->Appearance & Themes -> Icons

RE: problem with icons

I tried this and it don't work :( Only thing I must say is, that those icons which are in themes were always good, I've lost "only" those from all programs in kde-menu...

I found solution! When I've changed theme to one of standart ones, then icons were back. But when I've changed it back to one of my own themes (maked from the standart ones) icons were gone! So I've changed theme to Keramik and edited it manualy. Icons are back ;)

My guess is that you probably selected to use a new KDE theme. If you had selected a standard one again like Plastik all the icons would have come back.

As for using new themes - make sure to go to the advanced option to check that all icons are properly assigned.
