Visual Effects In Kicker

I have been trying to figure this out for about a week now. I have gone through all of the help stuff I could find and still cannot solve this mystery.
I have SuSE 10.1 on both my laptop at home and my workstation at work. As far as I can tell, both systems are upgraded to KDE 3.5.5 as I have looked at the files in Smart Package Manager (0.50rc1) for both systems. When I had upgraded my laptop to Smart 0.50rc1, I had a neat effect happen to my kicker. I'm not sure if this is a glitch or something. The icons have sort of changed. On my laptop at home the arrows do not show up on my menu icons unless I hover over the icon. My workstation still has the arrow markers over the menu icons. I have tried to duplicate all of the changes that have been made at home to my workstation, and everything that I do does not give me the same result at home. Does anyone have any ideas on where I could start to try to find the answer to my mystery?

Thanks in Advance,
phr33k

Its a bitt hidden in the configuration of kicker:

at the section [appearance], click on the button [advanced options]

in the next dialog, at [applet handles], choose the radio button with [fade out].

I checked that setting on both my laptop and worstation. It is the same. I am not sure if I am describing my problem well enough. Allow me to try again.

On my kicker, where my K Menu is (not the only menu that I have on my kicker) it shows an arrow to mark that it is a window. On my workstation, it is always visable, in the top left corner of the icon. The icons that I have at homedo not show the "menu arrow" all of the time, only when the mouse moves over the menu button. It will then show it in the top middle of that icon. I have also made sure it was not an icon theme issue, I have the same theme installed on both. From what I can see, all of the settings are the same. If I could get a screen shot of both desktops to show the difference I would (not sure if it's a KDE thing but I am not able to get a screen shot. If anyone knows this keystroke or setting that I need please let me know.)

Hopefully this explains my mystery a little more clearly.

Thanks in advance,
phr33k

Ah, now i see what you mean :)

No idea why that arrow is persistent on your machine.
Over here, it behaves as expected, the arrow is only visible when the mous hoovers over the button.

Try adding another button to kicker that opens a menu (like the print applet or a application menu) and check if that button also has a permanent arrow.

If you want to checkout if there is a difference between the used icons: you can find the corresponding .desktop file at
$KDEDIRshare/apps/kicker/builtins/kmenu.desktop
