[kopete] Can't connect to irc [SOLVED]

Kopete doesn't connect to irc servers. It's not a problem with my settings or connection because I can access those servers using any other client, it's only in kopete that it doesn't work.

It seems to get some sort of connection at first, then falls over - for instance when connecting to freenode it tells me my nick is already in use (which it is cause I'm on another client) and asks me to change it - so I do, then nothing. Same for irc.net:

(19:08:34) # Connecting to irc.net...
(19:08:34) # NOTICE from irc.net: BitlBee-IRCd initialized, please go on
(19:11:35) # You are now marked as Offline.

I do have issues with some things (because of a mucked up network connection, but that's not for here) and this is exactly what happens with those problems sites I have because of that: an initial connection, then it just seems to stop.

Which leads me to wonder if kopete uses a proxy somewhere for irc connections? If it does it directly, then there is a problem that i need help with :-(

I'm using the svn version patched with the formatting-toolbar patch.

EDIT:

This line came up with another server:

(19:23:43) # KIRC Error - Parse error:

So it looks like kirc just falls over, and seems similar to what was happening with freenode before. Was there any fix for that?

SOLUTION: You need to make sure that Nick, Alternate Nick, Real Name and Username are all filled in. Or it breaks.

This could be a bug in the SVN version.
