No sound until I log in as root
I've got a weird problem on a new Slackware 11.0 install.
After the machine boots up, if I log in as a user, KDE doesn't have any sound. If I log out and log back in as root, KDE gives a boot up sound and everything is fine. If I log back in as a regular user everything is fine and there are no problems until I reboot.
I've done a quick check and there don't appear to be any processes running after that weren't running before.
This isn't a *huge* deal as I dont' reboot too frequently, but I'd like not to do the logout-login-logout-login procedure every time I restart the machine. Anyone have any ideas?

You need to add your regular user to the audio group.
Run this command as root
gpasswd -a username audio <enter>

Fantastic! That was it. Or at least alsamixer isn't behaving crazy anymore, muting sound every time I touch it. I'll have to see if it comes back up after reboot.
Now to see if this works with my HTPC downstairs with the 5.1 speakers.

This worked for one of my Linux machines, but not for the other. I've made a separate post for that machine. If you could look at it, I would be grateful.
