slow staruptime for applications

Hello there!

As the topic says, I have some problems with slow startup times of applications in KDE, and even KDE it self seems to take long time start up...

I am using Slackware 11.0 with KDE 3.5.5 and Xorg 7.1 with beryl and some stuff installed.

What I did was that I Installled a basic slackwaresystem without hardly any graphics packages at all. The only relevant package I installed from the original slack11 release would be the qt-package they included. The rest is installed post-install, and not from slackwares official sources.

I assume the problem is that I have missed to install some package, probably related to kde(that's why I'm posting here :))

Here is a list of the relevent packages I have installed:

ls /var/log/packages | grep kde
kdeaddons-3.5.5-i486-1
kdeadmin-3.5.5-i486-1
kdeartwork-3.5.5-i486-1
kdebase-3.5.5-i486-7
kdegraphics-3.5.5-i486-1
kdelibs-3.5.5-i486-1
kdemultimedia-3.5.5-i486-1
kdenetwork-3.5.5-i486-1
kdesdk-3.5.5-i486-1
kdeutils-3.5.5-i486-1
kdevelop-3.3.5-i486-1
kdewebdev-3.5.5-i486-1

I DO know this is not all kde-packages, i just installed the ones i thought i needed, and left out the games and edu and such...

ls /var/log/packages | grep qt
qt-3.3.6-i486-4

ls /var/log/packages/ | grep beryl
beryl-core-0.1.2-i486-2gm
beryl-manager-0.1.2-i486-2gm
beryl-plugins-0.1.2-i486-2gm
beryl-settings-0.1.2-i486-2gm
beryl-vidcap-0.1.2-i486-1gm

ls /var/log/packages/ | grep emerald
emerald-0.1.2-i486-2gm
emerald-themes-0.1.2-i486-2gm

ls /var/log/packages/ | grep libwnc
libwnck-2.16.0-i686-m0rg

ls /var/log/packages/ | grep libgsf
libgsf-1.14.1-i486-1

x11-7.1-i686-pinki2
x11-devel-7.1-i686-pinki1
x11-docs-7.1-noarch-pinki1
x11-fonts-100dpi-6.9.0-noarch-5
x11-fonts-cyrillic-6.9.0-noarch-5
x11-fonts-misc-6.9.0-noarch-5
x11-fonts-scale-6.9.0-noarch-5
x11-xdmx-7.1-i686-pinki1
x11-xnest-7.1-i686-pinki1
x11-xvfb-7.1-i686-pinki1

And I have the nVidia driver installed also, version: 1.0-9631

I can also tell you that I have follwed the tutorial at: http://easys.gnulinux.de/en/index.php/Main/Aiglx
I can also tell you that the beryl stuff don't work:/ but that's another problem :)

I realy hope that anyone can se any pattern or something here, or have had the same problem with realy slow applications start-ups... We are talking about approx. 60sec or a bit more... It is not just qt-programs but also GTK ones...
And I notice that the diod on the box for disc-acces flashes, so maybe it is someting else, like memory/swap related??

Anyhow, I just hope that someone has some idea:)

Some questions:

How many ram memory does your machine have?

are the nvidia drivers correctly installed, with 3D enabled?
is xgl running?
how did you configure beryl?
What part of beryl is not working?
how does kde perform when not using xgl/beryl?
Help mee om KDE 3.5.5 in het Nederlands te vertalen

I've got 512MB of RAM.

The nvidia driver is installed correctly.
I dont use the beryl/glx/aiglx stuff at all, the only "eye-candy" thing i use is those that can be configured in kde in the window-settings dialog.

KDE ran fine and pretty quick before this reinstall, so I'm wondering if there is something that i missed or something in the kernel-config... Just a thought... Someone maybee recognise the symtoms?
