the kde menu editor is not saving. i save it but it reverts to it's previous state. i've tried moving the .menu file (i forget the name of it), but that did not fix it.

AFAIK kmenu adds stuff to either ~/.kde/share/applnk or ~/.local .

Check them out

Multaj dankojn..

the directory you told me, ~/.kde/share/applnk is empty. All the stuff is in the /local one.

At the time the stuff in (and in the sub-directories of ) /.local/share/simplified/applications/Mandrakelinux seems coherent with the appearance of the Kmenu.
I have yet to check if saving the modifications doesn't change these repertories neither the appearance, or if it changes the directory but not the appearance.
And also I have to check if any direct modification in the repertories is readily reflected in the appearance, either immediately or at the next session (or even at the next reboot).

If tere is any place where these topics are clarified....

antamajn dankojn

The appearance of the Kmenu is given by *.desktop files located in
~/.local/share/simplified/applications/Mandrakelinux

These are texte files, and any modificiation "handmade" in such a file is seen on the next consultation of the Kmenu.

Now it seems that there is much more such files than there is entries in the Kmenu.

So I plan to investigate further

mandriva has a script called updatemenus, which you can use to update your menu if not everything is visible.

kmenu hides empty menucategories (e.g. kmenu won't show 'multimedia' if there is none present.
That could explain the fact that on disk there are more entries than in the menu itself..
